A story of dignity

Daughter of the Desert – Barakatu

“Water should not be a privilege. It is a human right.”

Barakatu, 18, lives in the village of Tanka in Niger. Like many girls, she had to leave school after her primary education — and like millions of others, her days were shaped by the long search for water. Access to a clean, local water source transforms lives like hers.

Global Water Crisis and Muntada Aid

The United Nations recognises clean water and sanitation as a fundamental human right. Where that right is denied, communities suffer — health, economy, dignity and security all depend on it.

Delivering it is the state's duty, but poor infrastructure, scarce resources, overpopulation, corruption and war leave many national institutions unable to. Across our work in Asia and Africa, we have found that women and girls carry the burden of household water, sanitation and health.

Illness & Disease

One of Muntada Aid's core values is providing dignity to people we support. Keeping that in mind, we aim to provide clean water solutions to people within their communities and ease off their burden of daily searching for freshwater resources.

Our process

How we build your water well

From the first assessment on the ground to a personalised report once the well is handed over — here is how your donation becomes clean water.

Step 1
Need assessment
Our team on the ground performs a need assessment before commissioning a water well in a specific area.
Step 2
Soil and water testing
Before we start construction we carry out specific water tests (depending on the country) to check the quality and safety of the water. We also collaborate with local authorities for the various permissions and legal permits needed for construction during this period.
Step 3
Construction
The construction starts immediately after acquiring the relevant permissions from the local authorities and when suitable weather conditions permit.
Step 4
Handover to the local community
Once the water well is constructed and ready to use safely, we hand it over to the local community.
Step 5
Feedback
Once the water well is handed to the local population, we will share a personalised feedback report with photos of the well and beneficiaries.
