Yemen Crisis

Yemen conflict is now in the eighth year and country’s socio-economic systems remain on the edge of total collapse. The impact of the escalating conflict in 2021 and the first quarter of 2022 resulted in increased displacement and further disruption of public services, pushing humanitarian needs higher.

More than 23.4 million people (including 12.9 million children), almost three-quarters of the population, need humanitarian assistance and protection in 2022, an increase of 13 per cent from what was already an alarming figure in 2021. With more than 4.3 million internally displaced people since 2015, Yemen remains one of the largest internal displacement crises globally.

Despite Ongoing Humanitarian Assistance

Food insecurity in Yemen

In Yemen, 2 million children need treatment for acute malnutrition, while 15.9 million people wake up hungry every day. With 70% of the population facing food insecurity, urgent action is needed to address this crisis.

Yemen imports 90% of the food, but the ongoing conflict has disrupted the supply chains and that is causing serious situation in the country. The country need almost $3 billion worth of humanitarian assistance, but so far it has only managed half of it. With the coronavirus pandemic, the situation is only getting worse. The Yemeni people will need all the support we can offer.

What is Muntada Aid Doing?

Since 2020, Muntada Aid has been providing vital food assistance to over 150 families (more than 1,000 individuals) at the Taiz Refugee Camp in Yemen, a region severely affected by the ongoing conflict. These families, primarily displaced from Hodeidah due to fighting between warring factions, rely on Muntada Aid for daily sustenance.

Each £85 donation provides a month’s worth of food for a family of 5. The food pack includes 25 KG of wheat flour, 24 units of tinned vegetables, 10 KG of rice, 5 KG of lentils, 5 KG of sugar, 2 KG of salt, and 4 litres of vegetable oil. Since June 2020, Muntada Aid has delivered over 2 million meals to the camp, helping to alleviate hunger and support the most vulnerable during this humanitarian crisis.
