About water crisis in Gaza

Even before the war, clean water in Gaza was scarce. Today the situation is catastrophic — desalination has all but collapsed, almost none of the water is safe to drink, and millions of people, more than half of them children, urgently need clean water, sanitation and hygiene.

The crisis

A water system on the verge of collapse

Even before the current crisis, clean drinking water in Gaza was scarce — the UN warned that 600,000 people who had regained access in 2020 were cut off again. Since the aid blockade, output at the main Khan Younis desalination plant has fallen by 85%, and only around 4% of water is now drinkable. Without urgent help the remaining system will collapse, with inhumane consequences for the people who remain inside Gaza.

Our response

What is Muntada Aid doing?

Before the war, Muntada Aid built community desalination plants across Gaza — many now damaged by the bombing. Today, with our partners on the ground, we truck clean drinking water to hundreds of displaced people inside Gaza every single day, reaching the communities that need it most.
